Position Summary:
The Museum Attendant supports the daily operations, visitor experience, and community presence of the museum. Working under the supervision of museum staff and alongside a collaborative team, this role is responsible for delivering engaging, accurate, and accessible interpretation of exhibits, collections, and local history to a wide range of audiences.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver guided tours to visitors of all ages, including both scheduled and on-demand tours
- Welcome and assist guests, providing excellent customer service and answering visitor inquiries
- Adapt interpretive approaches to suit diverse audiences and learning styles
- Support the planning and delivery of museum events, including community programs, workshops, seasonal activities, and heritage celebrations
- Assist with event preparation, hands-on activities, visitor flow management, and event setup and takedown
- Contribute to the development of interpretive materials such as signage, digital content, and educational resources
- Conduct basic research on local history and assist with content creation and creative engagement initiatives
- Perform general museum support duties, including opening and closing procedures, maintaining cleanliness of public areas, and monitoring exhibit conditions
- Assist with light administrative tasks and report any issues or concerns to supervisors
- Work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and the Board of Directors
Qualifications:
- No education or experience is required, preference will be given to candidates with education or training in history, museum studies, or related fields.
- Previous experience in a museum, cultural institution, or customer service role is preferred.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to multitask and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Comfortable using basic computer software and point-of-sale systems.
- Physical ability to perform light maintenance tasks and stand for extended periods during tours.
- Must be between the ages of 15-30 and able to work in Canada
